Features of Industrial Heavy Duty Work Tables

Storage Options

Different storage configurations are available for a large workbench. Options include custom designed drawers, cabinets, shelves, and equipment racks. The colour, surface material, amount and positioning of these storage options are all customizable. By using a table-length shelf and placing it on the table surface or by positioning higher above, you’re making way to provide more surface workspace.  Shelves can be placed below the table as well. The depth of the shelves, drawers, and cabinets can also be custom designed.

Surface Options

Various surface options are available depending on the specific needs of the workplace. Surface options include chemical-resistant, fire-resistant and scratch-proof. An ESD/static-control surface is also available to protect workers from electric shock. If there are many large machines in the workplace that cause vibrations then a vibration damping surface may be a good choice. Additional surface options include plastic laminate, solid surface, electropolished, solid wood (butcher block), stainless steel, and cutting block.

Adjustability

Sometimes a large workbench might have to accommodate multiple workers and different types of tasks. In these situations it’s important to consider the different body types and workplace needs. Portability

A portable heavy duty shop table has wheels and is useful for transporting equipment or objects. Adding wheels to any work table will allow for more diversity in the workplace. Enabling industrial tables to be physically moved around and thus used for many different purposes, instead of just one. These wheels, also known as heavy duty casters, can be locked to ensure the heavy duty shop table is stable and secure. Did you know that swivel wheels are also available, and can be combined with regular wheels for added stability and mobility.

Heavy Duty Work Table Designs

Your choice of industrial workbench design, will depend primarily on your space limitations, storage needs, and the type of tasks being performed. The design will also depend on how many people are using the table. At the most basic level is the standard workbench. This type of table is a simple four-legged rectangular table that comes with a durable steel frame. This model also includes a lower cross member, which is a steel bar along the bottom that can be used as a foot rest.

Some workplaces may require an over sized work bench.  The standard heavy duty work table/workbench includes six legs and is designed for very heavy loads (hence the name – heavy duty). The over sized work bench has a weight capacity of 1,000 pounds and can be extra long, including 9”0’ or greater. The standard model of the over sized work bench includes durable steel-frame construction with multiple cross member bars along the bottom for extra support.

The large workbench with recessed front legs provides the worker with unobstructed leg movement by positioning the supporting legs closer to the back. This type of workbench is also constructed with a durable steel frame and includes a lower cross member for added support and stability.

A two-way table design is also available and allows more than one person to sit at a table. This design is useful when working with limited floor space or if workers need to collaborate. Two-way tables often include extra features such as privacy chatter panels or leg space privacy shields. Alternatively, a longer table, or L-shaped table, can also accommodate more than one person.

With an L-shaped work bench, users have the benefit of two work surfaces, placed in a 90-degree angle formation. Tables may include utility or file drawers, a half or full depth lower shelf, and a sliding keyboard and mouse tray. An optional power strip can be selected if the consumer prefers to plug equipment in at the table level, instead of crawling around on the floor.

When this shape of industrial workbenches is selected, different configurations are possible. Each work surface may be the same length and width or the customer may opt to have one surface shorter in length than the other. Often, the space available in the facility or office determines the dimensions and configuration of the L-shaped work table, so the option to customize is welcomed at RDM.

Workbenches are available in different heights, with 30 inches being the standard height for a sitting desk and 36 inches standard for a desk used for standing tasks. The ADA accessible height of 34 inches is also available. If none of these is suitable, a custom height can also be provided to meet consumer needs. Frames and legs are made from fully-welded tubular steel and leveler feet are included on the legs.

Since these industrial workbenches may serve different purposes in different environments, a variety of tabletop options are made available by RDM. Plastic laminate, solid wood, stainless steel, and solid surface are the most common. Electropolished stainless steel is ideal for a cleanroom and chemical resistant and static control tops are also available.
