Here are just a few of the many things in this diverse area that RDM can create for your workplace:

Standard Commercial Casework:

This general design involves both an upper and a lower set of cabinets, both of which have Eruo-style slab doors. The bottom units also have shelves atop their doors and are topped off by a small work surface. They are not designed for any kind of heavy-duty use, but they can perform basic storage functions.

PCB Storage Units:

Printed Circuit Board units are deigned to be insulated against electricity and to be non-flammable. As such, they are ideal for storing sensitive or volatile chemicals or other kinds of reactive equipment. Our units can be made of MDF, lightweight MDF, plywood or with particle boards. They can also be laminated with plastic, given a melamine finish or coated with ESD to guard against static. We can also put these units on wheels to make it easy for you to transport any of the equipment they carry.

Cleaning Room & Laboratory Casework:

RDM Stainless Steel Casework is available in a variety of Stainless Steel Cabinet Styles including Base Cabinets and Upper Cabinets

Units in this category are absolutely ideal for use in laboratories of all kinds. They are designed to have all the qualities that lab researchers seek. Features that help them get to work on their research or store away crucial equipment when it’s not in use. The basic designs also involve flat work surfaces with a base-level storage area and a set of further storage cabinets placed overhead and attached to a wall. Both parts of this setup are made of stainless steel to make them maximally damage-resistant. We can also custom-design them to be chemical-resistant and/or flame-resistant. Thus enabling them to reliably withstand even the harshest conditions likely to be found in a lab. Overhead storage units can either be suspended from a wall or directly attached to the work surface. Click here to have a look at some of our hardiest stainless steel units.

Lockers and Storage Units:

Our lockers — mainly meant to be used for storing clothes, uniforms and other staff belongings which, for one reason or another, should be kept away from the main work environment — are made of melamine and can be laminated with plastic to give them a glossy finish. Their doors lock securely, so whatever you store in them will be safe. But they are not designed to store hazardous material. For that, some of the other specially designed units that have been mentioned above are more appropriate. Our special storage units, however, hare made of stupider stuff — namely, stainless steel. Their main hallmark, however, is that rather than doors, they use drawers in which to store things. You also have the option of putting them on wheels for the sake of ease of transport.

Standard Service Counters:

These units can be made in a range of different heights between 34 and 48 inches. Beneath their flat work surface are a series of shelves on which workers can store materials that they will need to have close at hand. Units can be made in either a standard straight or an L-shaped configuration.

Work Surfaces for Receptionists:

We also manufacture work surfaces that are ideal for use in a reception room, where workstations tend to be larger. Such workstations can come with file drawers and pedestals for the receptionist’s use. Plus its upper surface can be customized to be anywhere between 36 and 48 inches off the ground. It can even be made with a cantilevered lower-level desk surface with a variable height of between 28 and 30 inches.

Demonstration or Display Surfaces:

If you need surfaces on which to leave certain items on display — not necessarily for workers to perform continuous daily tasks at — then RDM has you covered as well. Like our PCB units, these can also be made of either MDF, lightweight MDF, plywood or particle boards. We can laminate them for you with plastic, or give them a melamine finish. And we can outfit them with containment curbs to ensure that the objects you place upon them don’t roll or fall off. If you need us to, we can even make these units chemical-resistant.

What you’ve seen here is only a rather rudimentary discussion of what we can offer you. Once you factor in all of our many customization options, the set of possibilities explodes. For a deeper look into out different custom cabinets and casework, click here.

General Features of Cabinets, Counters and Casework

We’ve already alluded to some general features above. Here are a few more specific custom features that we can add in to the units you order and how they can enhance your workplace:

Stainless Steel Construction:

The benefits of having units made of stainless steel are fairly obvious. Included in the list is, longevity, strength, reliability, safety, etc. If your workplace is one where these qualities are needed, check out our stainless steel options.

Special Surface Options:

Here, we have in mind the ability to coat the surfaces of our units to give them various special properties. Such as, flame-resistance and chemical-resistance. In addition to these two big and popular options, we can also coat many surfaces in ESD to curb the transmission of static electricity. Some other options include Trespa TopLab, epoxy resin, Trespa Athlon and corian. Any and all of these can be of critical importance in a lab setting, depending on the sorts of chemical agents you’ll be working with. That makes safety the primary benefit of all of these options.

Workplaces that Stand to Benefit

Now that you’ve seen what kinds of units we have and what they can do, what kinds of workplaces have been, and continue to be, enhanced by their use. Here are just a few:

laboratories of all kinds, whether they’re involved in research, design or anything else

university and high school science labs

medical schools

office buildings of any kind with reception rooms

stores wishing to give customers a look at their products

Conclusion

Without a good place to work, it won’t be possible to do much work. And without places to store materials, operations in a great many workplaces will be stymied. These two obvious truths should indicate all on their own the great importance good commercial cabinets and workstations to all kinds of workplaces. And with their many useful features, their ability to enhance the workplace — both from a productive and a stylistic perspective — cannot be denied.

In your journey to bring your workplace to the next level, RDM is happy to be of service. Our industrial-quality and factory-direct cabinets, counters and casework are all proudly manufactured in our facilities in California. We encourage you to take a look at them.

When selecting laboratory storage and containment solutions, it is important to choose products that can handle the weight of equipment being used. Manufacturers create furniture with various types of load weight capacity, making it necessary for consumers to understand the differences.

A structural load is a force applied either to the component of the storage structure or to the structure as a whole. When designing lab furniture, RDM Industrial Products considers all stress factors involved, including, load magnitude, distribution, frequency of occurrence and dynamic or static nature. A load can cause a structure to be stressed, displaced, or even deformed. Overloading may eventually result in structural failure.

Static loads are those that gradually build up over time or have negligible dynamic effects, which are the effects that torques have on motion. It is much easier to do a structural analysis for a static than a dynamic load. In most cases, equipment manufacturers will publish the statically-equivalent load weight capacity for static loads.

One industrial furniture manufacturer that approaches things a bit differently is RDM Industrial Products, Inc. The load capacity figure calculated by this company is based on a live load, which is a load that displays significant dynamic effects. It includes all the variable forces that occur within the normal operation cycle of an object. As an example, with a table and large equipment, this would involve the actual weight of operating equipment, along with any movements that may be produced by the equipment or outside forces that could be applied to the pair. This pressure is variable based on the size of the equipment, frequency of use, and other loads that may be applied, like someone or something leaning onto the table edge.

Publishing a load weight capacity figure that accounts for live loads includes more than just the weight of the component placed on or in a structure. It also considers the forces that vary throughout the operation cycle of the component. When purchasing laboratory furniture designed for use with heavy equipment, consumers should look for live load capacity figures. The common static load ratings that other manufacturers list for their products will look larger, but are in fact inflated, since they are not factoring in many other common forces that could be applied to a table of workstation. At RDM industrial products, their load ratings are factored using live load calculations. Be sure to understand when a lesser, exaggerated static load rating is being presented. It will save you a world of grief.
