If you’re in the manufacturing industry, healthcare, an industrial setting or laboratory, then you’re likely in need of industrial duty stainless steel furnishings. From stainless steel lab tables to carts and more. There are numerous stainless steel furnishings to choose from that complement your place of business. We will discuss why stainless steel is so commonly used for industrial purposes, the common industries that use this furniture and what types of furniture you can expect to find at this high level of quality.

Why Use Stainless Steel for Furniture?

When you think of home furniture, you probably think about materials like wood, upholstery and other comfortable or aesthetically pleasing materials. If you’re in an industrial setting though, then you want stainless steel furniture that will serve your everyday needs without breaking down.

Most industrial, manufacturing and laboratory settings work with materials that common materials can’t handle. For example, you might be working with corrosive, reactive or hazardous materials. You need furniture that is nonreactive, noncorrosive, nonporous and durable enough to withstand any accidents or spills. It also needs to be easy to clean so that you don’t need to worry about cross contamination.

Stainless steel does all that and more. Not only does it offer every property we just listed, but it’s also fairly easy to work with. This allows us to make many different items, and we can even produce custom items as needed.

What Industries Use Stainless Steel Furnishings?

RDM Stainless Steel Ergonomic Lift Table – Model A-107P-SS-CLG-DROP-TRESP includes Drop-Leaf Extension Table Surface(s), shown here with one on each side. Also shown with Optional Casters (Wheels).

There are many industries that use stainless steel tables and other furnishings. Laboratories are probably the most common because they need stainless steel lab tables that can withstand hazardous or corrosive chemicals, require a sterile environment, need equipment that can be thoroughly cleaned and must have the environment completely under their control. Stainless steel has all these properties.

Manufacturing and industrial settings have many of the same requirements. These often work with even more hazardous materials, but stainless steel is still able to provide workers with protection. Unlike some materials that might react to certain chemicals, stainless steel provides a safe environment for technicians and employees to do their job.

There are other industries that also require stainless steel. Many companies that work with electronics require stainless steel workbenches. That’s because this material won’t discharge static. Imagine the harm one static shock could do while working with expensive electronics. Hours of work and thousands of dollars could be lost to one small shock.

The food industry also uses stainless steel furniture. Due to its nonporous and easy-to-clean nature, stainless steel is ideal for this setting. This is especially true when working with allergens as this industry is highly regulated. This material ensures that workers can thoroughly clean their environment so that consumer safety is safeguarded.

Most Common Types of Stainless Steel Furniture

While stainless steel is very tough and durable, our manufacturer direct service is able to produce a wide range of items. Not only that, but we welcome our customers to request custom items, such as extra large tables, thicker steel, more storage space and so on.

Stainless steel can be turned into nearly anything. Stainless steel carts, workbenches and tables are incredibly common. These all give you a flat surface to work on projects while giving you the protection of stainless steel. Tables are fairly basic, carts have casters and wheels and workbenches can have lighting and places to store equipment.

Stainless Steel Lockers

There are also stainless steel lockers. Not only are these durable, but they also provide the static-free and easy-to-clean environment your lab, cleanroom or manufacturing plant needs. Large storage cabinets can also be produced to fit equipment, manufactured items, personal belongings and more.

While these are the most common items, our quality designed furniture can fit all your furnishing needs. Everything is proudly manufactured in the USA and factory direct.

Key Features and Benefits of Stainless Steel

Many people know that stainless steel is tough and durable. While these are qualities that industrial and manufacturing settings need, the benefits of stainless steel go far deeper than that.

Not only is this material resistant to most bangs and hits, but it’s also resistant to many acids and chemicals. You need furniture that won’t react or be entirely destroyed by small accidents. Stainless steel resists most chemical reactions, ensuring safety and protecting your investment. It’s also nonporous, which prevents chemicals from wearing away or latching to the surface.

Stainless steel is very easy to clean. That might not seem like a huge benefit, but it really is. Imagine that harm that could be done if a chemical or allergen remained stuck to the table’s surface. This could lead to cross contamination, unexpected chemical reactions and numerous other threats.

The last major benefit is that stainless steel doesn’t build a static charge, which is essential for many businesses that need a controlled environment. You don’t need electronics destroyed or chemicals activated by a small static shock.

What to Know Before Making a Purchase

There are several things you should consider before making your stainless steel furnishings purchase. The first thing we suggest is mapping out the environment and finding out what furniture you need. Consider overall sizing and general requirements.

We offer many options, so be sure you consider your needs. For example, let’s say you need stainless steel workbenches. Do they need adjustable height, casters, storage shelves, lighting or extra thick steel? Consider your needs and check our features. If you don’t see a feature listed, then ask us about it. We often accommodate custom requests.

You should also check safety guidelines. You may want to save money by getting thinner material, but safety guidelines might require specific features. It’s also a good idea to consult your team and see what they feel is necessary for operations.

Conclusion

Stainless steel furniture is ideal for many manufacturing, laboratory, industrial and food settings. Not only do we offer a wide range of options and features, but we also help answer questions and work with custom orders. We at RDM Industrial Products would be happy to help with your stainless steel furnishing needs. Contact us today about any questions you have.

Stainless steel furniture can seem like a godsend to lab workers and managers alike. It’s durable, dependable, and, because any furniture made with it can be fireproofed and made resistant to chemical damage, it contributes marvelously to lab workers’ safety.

You shouldn’t let these wonderful features fool you into complacently thinking that stainless steel furniture is invincible and needn’t be handled with care, however. As with everything else, time, chemical spills, possible laboratory mishaps, and general accumulated use do take their toll on stainless steel carts, tables, lockers, cabinets, and workbenches. To maximize the working lives of all of these things, you’ll need a well-stocked cleanroom and a thorough, established routine of cleaning and maintenance procedures.

Here are 10 critical tips to follow in all stainless steel cleanrooms so that you can get the most out of your furnishings. Some of these will be suggestions about what to do, and others about what not to do.

1. Don’t Clean Your Stainless Steel Furniture With Chlorine

RDM Stainless Steel Casework is available in a variety of Stainless Steel Cabinet Styles: including Base Cabinets, Upper Cabinets & more.

One of stainless steel’s most useful features is its imperviousness to oxidation or rust. Ordinarily, stainless steel tables and other furnishings are made using an alloy of both steel and chromium, the latter of which works to prevent oxidation by keeping oxygen molecules from reacting with the metal. Chlorine and solvents containing chlorine strip away this protective chromium and expose the furniture on which they are used to the dangers of rust.

Do not use anything chlorine-based to clean your lab furniture. That means no acetone, mineral spirits or isopropyl alcohol, among some other things.

2. Stick to Cleaning With a Warm Cloth, Water and Detergent

As simple as it sounds, a good, thorough wipe using some warm water and a damp cloth will be sufficient to handle most mild stains that show up on your stainless steel cabinets or other types of furniture. That should be enough to remove dirt and other simple things. To make sure that the furniture isn’t plagued by any water stains, rinse everything with water once more and gently wipe it down with a dry cloth.

3. Use Solvents for Tougher Stains

If there are fingerprints, oil stains, chemical stains or anything else that’s more difficult to clean on your stainless steel surface, use any good detergent or dish soap to get the job done. In a pinch, baking soda, vinegar and even toothpaste can also be effective.

4. If You Must Use Chlorine, Electropolish Your Furniture First

Let’s say that you’re in a bind. For whatever reason, your lab is fresh out of detergent, soap, baking soda and all other acceptable cleaning solvents. Also, all of the water at hand is dirty or unsuitable. The only thing within reach are those dreaded chlorine-based cleaners. What do you do then?

If you absolutely must use a chlorine-based solvent to clean your stainless steel furniture, it is essential that you electropolish the furniture first. Electropolishing is a process whereby minuscule jagged edges and stray ions are removed from a metal surface. In particular, electropolishing will remove metal ions from stainless steel workbenches or other kinds of lab furniture that would make that furniture vulnerable to corrosion, thus neutralizing chlorine’s chief threat.

5. Regularly Do Some Stainless Steel Passivation

Stainless steel passivation is a process whereby stainless steel can be made less generally reactive to external and environmental chemical influences, particularly to rusting. Oxidation can make your furniture weak and brittle, and you should obviously take steps to prevent it or arrest it. This is what passivation achieves.

The best and simplest way to passivate your stainless steel lab furnishings is simply to clean them with deionized water. You will probably also have to clean furnishings with a nitric acid solution or other mild oxidant to really kickstart the process. Doing this will lead to the formation of a passive film over the surface of your furniture.

6. Don’t Clean Against the Grain

All stainless steel furnishings, from simple cabinets to stainless steel tables with adjustable legs, have a wood-like grain to them. A close glance at any stainless steel surface will reveal that grain. When wiping down your furniture, always follow the grain. If you don’t, you will make it easier for dirt or chemical irritants to build up within the surface as the furniture experiences more and more use. That can cause damage in innumerable ways, from creating ugly and hard-to-remove stains, to cracking, corroding, destroying and breaking apart the stainless steel at its very foundations.

7. Try to Be Gentle

When dealing with particularly stubborn stains, some hard scrubbing may be warranted. Don’t overdo it, though. Scrubbing too hard will create scratches and abrasions on stainless steel’s surface, and these abrasions, however small, are openings through which chemical irritants can later seep in to cause yet further damage. You should therefore use only soft cloths made of materials like nylon or microfiber to wipe down surfaces. Do not use steel wool or any kind of abrasive cleaning pads, liquids or powders.

8. Get Special Stainless Steel Furniture for Cleanrooms

Even though your cleanroom is the place to clean your stainless steel casework and other furniture, the cleanroom itself can use certain stainless steel furnishings of its own. In addition to our quality-designed and factory-direct lockers, workbenches, carts, and stainless steel tables with adjustable legs, we at RDM also make special industrial-quality furniture that is specifically designed for use in cleanrooms. Among our stainless steel cleanroom furnishings are racks where you can store all of your various cleaning tools and solvents, stainless steel tables of various shapes and sizes to keep things close at hand and stainless steel lockers to store yet more critical supplies. Take a look at our stainless steel cleanroom furnishings here.

9. Make Sure to Keep Furniture Polished

A proper deep clean is always great, but to really put the finishing touches on your lab furnishings, you need to make them glimmer and shine. The glimmer of stainless steel is part of its allure, and you certainly wouldn’t want that to fade. To keep stainless steel lab furniture polished and shiny, we recommend using lemon oil, special sprays designed to let your furniture keep its undiminished luster, or any of the many commercial stainless steel polishers that are available on the market.

Truthfully speaking, polishing should really be the third step in a tripartite process. First, you wipe the furniture using some combination of clean water and a solvent, then you rinse it off and dry it with another cloth, and then you spread a few drops of polish onto the surface with another cloth — all moving with the grain.

10. There’s No Such Thing as Cleaning too Often

Cleaning, when done right, does no damage whatsoever to stainless steel furniture and does a great deal to prevent and even repair damage. You can clean your furniture as often as you like. How often to take things to the cleanroom is a personal decision for you to make, but we recommend doing it as often as possible unless some other pressing need prevents you. The more vigorous the work that goes on in your lab is and the more caustic substances and spills there are, the more often you should do so.

Conclusion

High-quality stainless steel furniture is indispensable to research and development labs, factories and types of businesses that are too numerous to mention. RDM’s stainless steel furniture is proudly manufactured in the USA up to the very highest design standards, but even it needs to be cared for. Since you’ll be making a significant investment when you buy stainless steel furnishings, our advice on how to keep things functioning properly should help you get more bang for you buck.

RDM’s Types of Stainless Steel Industrial Furniture

RDM Stainless Steel Cabinets – Model RDM-STAINLESS-STEEL-CABINET-LOW-01 is our typical Low-Profile Mobile Stainless Steel Tall Cabinet Design with a single (1) adjustable height shelf.

First, let us give you a quick overview of the kinds of stainless steel furniture that we can supply to your lab.

Tables: Stainless steel work tables are one of the most important tools that it’s possible to have in the lab. They can store or carry equipment, and they are often the site where much critical work is done. RDM manufactures stainless steel work tables in all kinds of shapes and sizes.

Workbenches: Stainless steel workbenches are also essential laboratory tools. They are similar to tables in many ways, but are generally rectangular and are designed so that lab personnel may comfortably do their work there while either sitting or standing. Many of our workbenches can also be made with drawers or cabinets included.

Carts: Stainless steel utility carts are small, wheeled contraptions that allow lab workers to quickly and easily transport all kinds of things — usually chemicals or tools — across the lab. Some of our carts are simple one-tiered models, while others are larger and come with multiple shelves.

Cabinets and Lockers: Stainless steel cabinets are consummate storage tools. When potentially dangerous chemicals are not in use, they need to be kept somewhere where they can’t do serious damage, even in the unfortunate case of a spill or mishap. Stainless steel cabinets are ideal for such tasks. A set of stainless steel lockers also provides a great place for lab workers to store their street clothes or other belongings during the workday.

RDM can customize all of these products in many different ways. Some of the many stainless steel table options that we offer include the ability to customize dimensions, add in variable-height capabilities, add in drawers or lower shelves, and place wheels under the table legs to give them mobility.

Many of these same options are also available for our stainless steel utility carts and workbenches. If you buy one of our stainless steel workbenches, you also have the option of adding in overhead racks and shelves to let you keep more tools and equipment close at hand.

Lastly, our stainless steel cabinets can be made in varying heights, depths, and other dimensions: 84 inches high, between 18 and 48 inches wide, and either 16 or 21 inches deep. You also have the option of equipping cabinets with either swinging or sliding doors, or of giving them no doors at all. Moreover, the doors can be made of either glass or stainless steel.

Check out our full lineup of quality-designed stainless steel industrial furniture — all proudly manufacture in the USA — today.

Some Key Features of Stainless Steel Furniture

Some very important general properties and features pervade all of our different types of industrial-grade lab furniture, features that extend far beyond just the stainless steel table options and other customization features that we’ve already mentioned. These things all contribute to making our furniture extremely useful in a laboratory setting. Here are some of them:

Durability: Stainless steel is tough, and that’s probably the primary reason why so many labs simply won’t accept any major furniture that’s made of anything else. In an environment loaded with dangerous substances, occasional spills and other human-caused accidents are bound to happen. Good lab furnishings, therefore, should be able to take some damage without breaking down. Anything that’s made of steel can meet that challenge.

No Rusting or Discoloration: Stainless steel is called “stainless” because it doesn’t rust or discolor. When a small amount of chromium is alloyed with steel, it prevents oxygen from reacting with it. That means the metal doesn’t rust. Because stainless steel doesn’t absorb liquids, it can’t be discolored either.

Fireproofing and Chemical Resistance: RDM can take the natural properties of stainless steel and modify them so that our furniture can become even more impressive. If you so desire, we can make any furniture that we build for you fireproof and chemical-and-corrosion resistant. These things can be extremely important if your lab staff regularly handles dangerous, flammable, or explosive compounds. Moreover, we can even cost our furniture with static-resistant ESD for you.

Important Benefits

Now that you know so much more about the kinds of stainless steel industrial furniture we offer, you may be asking yourself why you should make the necessary investment and deck out your lab with it. Here are some of the most salient benefits of industrial-quality stainless steel lab furniture:

Longevity: As mentioned, stainless steel lab furniture is durable and rust-resistant. We can make it flame, static and chemical resistant for you as well. All of this means that your furniture will last longer and that your lab will be able to rely on it for years and years.

Lab Worker Safety: Storing dangerous compounds in chemical-resistant and flame-resistant cabinets, for example, means that any accidents that might happen with said compounds are less likely to injure workers. Stainless steel furniture can promote worker safety in many other ways as well.

Wide Customizability: The various customizability options that we’ve mentioned above ultimately put more power into your hands. They allow you to meet needs on a more granular level, and this will ultimately make your lab more dynamic and efficient.

Cost Savings: All of the features and benefits that we’ve mentioned so far — the toughness and longevity, the fact that they can help keep lab personnel safe — all add up to one other very important thing: they cost you less money in the long run. You might save money because you’ll spend less on replacing damaged furniture, or your lab might produce more because workers are less likely to get hurt.

Which Industries Use Them?

With so many clear and significant benefits, you won’t be surprised that many industries make liberal use of stainless steel furniture in their facilities. Here are just some examples:

Scientific and medical research labs

Engineering and design firms

Hospitals and medical schools

Automotive and aerospace manufacturing firms

Conclusion

Given both the sheer number and the weight of the advantages that stainless steel industrial furniture can confer upon your lab, you should really consider it a necessity. And no matter what your lab’s peculiar needs happen to be, RDM can use its 40 years of industry experience to supply them.

Over the years, important laboratory equipment and furnishings, will inevitably endure quite a bit of wear and tear. Chemical spills, scratches, abrasions and other kinds of mishaps and signs of damage will build up. And general aging of equipment isn’t the only enemy you’ll have to fight. It’s also true that even the most careful group of researchers will occasionally mishandle corrosive chemicals and accidentally damage lab furnishings.

With all of these things working against you, it’s definitely a good idea to get the most durable furnishings for your lab that you possibly can.

That’s where stainless steel comes in.

RDM Laboratory Tops – Stainless Steel Furnishings

Stainless steel furnishings are tough enough to withstand large amounts of accumulated damage. Plus their longevity makes them a natural choice for lab managers who are committed to making sure that their laboratories stay running smoothly for years on end.

RDM Industrial Products offers a wide selection of industrial-quality stainless steel furniture to make your lab a more complete workplace. Please note also that we’re able to custom design much of this furniture according to your specifications.

Here is a brief discussion of some of the different kinds of factory direct stainless steel furniture that we have waiting for you and your lab or industrial workspace.

Stainless Steel Furnishings:

Workbenches

Each researcher in your lab needs a workbench that’s comfortable, spacious and tough enough to withstand damage from the occasional spill. Our stainless steel workbenches are simply designed, but more than durable enough to serve any purpose you may require. In addition to their smooth, flat and corrosion-and-chemical-resistant surfaces, our workbenches come equipped with overhead racks where you can place important supplies that you need to have close at hand. The F-103P-SS is a single-shelf model and the F-103PL/DS-SS comes with two shelves.

We also have adjustable-height stainless steel workbenches like the A-107P-SS, which uses a hydraulic lift.

We allow you to customize the size and dimensions of each workbench to your needs. And you cal add on whatever additional accessories you require.

Tables

Stainless steel tables are similar to our workbenches, but usually have a set of sliding drawers attached to them rather than some overhead shelves. Various widths and depths are available, depending on the model in which you are interested. These can range from as little as 30 inches to as much as 72 inches.

If smooth-top models aren’t what you need, we also offer the A-109P-SS-PERF, which is a perforated stainless steel table. Small adjustable-height tables like the i-107P-SS are also available.

In addition to corrosion and chemical resistance, you can also outfit your tables with static-resistant ESD.

Cabinets and Casework

Stainless steel cabinets are a particularly essential piece of hardware for your lab. With all of the many volatile compounds and important tools lying around in the lab, you really can’t do without some good storage cabinets.

First, we offer a standard 84-inch-high cabinet unit with a wealth of customization options open to the customer. You can choose to have the steel on this model be either corrosion-resistant or both chemical-and-corrosion-resistant. Various cabinet widths are available in 6-inch increments ranging from 18 inches to 48 inches. Both 16-inch and 21.25-inch deep units are available. Furthermore, you can choose to have either stainless steel doors, glass doors or no doors at all. Both sliding door and swinging door options are also available.

The major piece of stainless steel casework that we offer follows the following basic design: a long, flat counter with an array of drawers and base cabinets beneath it to provide you with extra storage space. The counter will usually include a sink where you can conveniently wash your hands. The entire units — including both the counter and the base cabinets — can be made corrosion-resistant, chemical-resistant and fireproof. Since all of our equipment is factory-direct, you may request other features as well.

Lockers

Lockers are another excellent storage option. While are cabinets and casework are great for storing hazardous chemicals and other lab supplies, lab workers can store a change of clothes or some of their other personal items in a locker. Stainless steel lockers are durable and can reliably keep any belongings stored in them safe. The fact that they’re made of stainless steel also keeps them from rusting and adds to their longevity.

RDM offers stainless steel lockers in a number of different configurations. Each unit is 72 inches tall and can be made with single-tier, double-tier or six tier lockers. We can also make locker units and individual lockers of various widths.

Carts

Carts are a simple but excellent resource for your lab. If you ever find yourself needing to quickly and easily pass out supplies like gloves or safety goggles to scientists and lab assistants. Just pack a cart with whatever supplies you need and slide them across the lab towards whichever locations they’re needed in.

We sell a few different cards of stainless steel carts. Some models are essentially just flat stainless steel tables on wheels. We also sell a model with a protruding curb top that’s meant to keep all loaded items safely in place, even if the cart is being slid along at high speeds. Other models have both top and bottom-level surfaces, allowing you to load more things onto them. Still other carts are larger and have as many as four levels.

You’ll also have the option of outfitting your lab carts with sliding drawers which are also made of stainless steel. This is yet another add on to give your carts maximum carrying capacity.

As with all of our other manufacturer-direct stainless steel furniture, each cart model can be made into any of a variety of different sizes, making suitable for large labs as well as small ones.

Conclusion

What we’ve discussed here only just scratches the surface of what we can offer you in the realm of durable and reliable stainless steel furnishings. If you need specially-designed and/or very specific features for your cabinets, tables or workbenches, we’ve got you covered. RDM is open to answering your questions, and fulfilling custom order solutions for your lab. All of our products are proudly manufactured in the USA.

The workbench is the beating heart of every laboratory. It’s where every scientist does his work. And every other sort of activity that goes on in the lab ultimately revolves around what happens there. It goes without saying, therefore, that to do his best work, every scientist needs a good workbench.

But there’s more to a good workbench than just the bench itself. There is also a wide variety of different types of accessories that can be tacked on to every bench. Accessories help to improve functionality and allow researchers to do more concentrated work. RDM Industrial Products offers a great array of different workbench accessories and allows you to customize the workbenches in your lab in whatever way you need.

Adustable-Height ESD Workbench with Overhead Light / Accessory Boom

Whether your lab is dedicated to a specific sort of work that requires certain kinds of workbenches or whether each scientist on your team needs his own personalized combination of tools, we have you covered. Let’s have a look at some of the many different industrial-quality workbench accessories available.

Computer Accessories

Computers are indispensable laboratory tools. They log data, crunch numbers, and simplify all sorts of operations for a lab team. But sometimes, even relatively small computers can take up valuable space on a workbench. That space is essential for doing other kinds of work. Computer accessories for your workbench are generally meant to make life easier. Allowing you to access your computer while keeping it from dominating your workspace.

Some computer-based accessories include:

Monitor stands: These typically consist of a robotic arm of some kind that holds your monitor in position and allows you to rotate manipulate it as needed. We also have rear post mounted options that offer greater stability.

Keyboard trays: These can slide under your desk so that the keyboard doesn’t take up room on your workstations. If you want durability, we offer the option to have trays made of stainless steel.

Rail Stands: These are like monitor stands, only instead of a robotic arm to which you can attach your monitor, you have a whole rack on which you might be able to put multiple items.

Storage Accessories

Labs cannot function without proper storage facilities. Important lab documents should be tucked away for safekeeping and easy access. Hazardous chemicals should be stored in an area where they can be sure not to wreak havoc or endanger the health and safety of lab workers. Tools integral to everyday operations of an industrial or research lab should be stored in convenient locations and kept close at hand. RDM thus offers your lab or industrial workspace, a large number of different storage solutions.

Here are just a few storage accessories:

Base Cabinets: When you add base cabinets to your workbench, it becomes an all-in-one workstation and storage facility. Adding on something as simple as a few base cabinets can thus noticeably expand your researcher’s capabilities while at work. We offer customized cabinets made of stainless steel, phenolic and chemical-resistant trespa, among other materials. For those working with dangerous substances, we can also make your workstation base cabinets flame-resistant.

Other Kinds of Cabinets: In addition to the base cabinets that come attached to many of our laboratory workbenches, you can also hang cabinets on the wall above your workstation or on a nearby wall to put more crucial lab items at your fingertips as you work. Large, walk-in cabinets are also available for storing larger items. As with base cabinets, we are able to customize these other cabinets. We can make them according to your exact specifications, using materials various materials, and giving them chemical or flame-resistant properties.

File Drawers: We make durable and reliable file cabinets. Some with sliding drawers so that important mail as well as crucial laboratory paperwork is sent to or keep where it needs to be. If you desire added durability, we can make these out of metal.

Shelves: A simple overhead shelf might be just what’s needed to keep things in a convenient place as you work. Similarly, a shelf underneath your workbench may be just as useful, especially if you need a place to keep a desktop computer. We offer custom shelving of many kinds.

Tool Racks: Lab researchers regularly use all kinds of equipment throughout the day, but keeping everything right on their work counters, or even in the base or overhead cabinets, will tend to clutter things up. To help prevent that from happening we offer tool racks and pegboards on which to keep heavier and more cumbersome tools.

What we’ve said here only scratches the surface of the full range of different storage options available. We encourage you to check out some of our industrial-quality and factory-direct custom workbench accessories to help meet your lab’s storage needs.

Power and Lighting

For most industrial workbenches, some kind of lighting fixture is a standard feature. When working with chemicals and attempting to facilitate reactions, it’s important to get the dosages of everything just right, and proper lighting is crucial to accomplishing that. Thus, most workbenches come included with either fluorescent or LED lights of some kind.

If you want to modify or customize your workbench lighting, however, RDM has you covered. We not only offer overhead lighting fixtures for workbenches which hold either fluorescent or halogen bulbs but also sell smaller inspection lamps that you can attach to a post on your workbench and then drag and twist around as necessary to bring light to just the spots where you need it.

Of course, without a nearby power source, you can’t have the lighting you need. You can thus have manufacturer-direct workbenches created that come with long power strips which are about 4 feet long. The strip allows you to plug in your lights, your computer, and whatever devices you need right at the workstation.

Miscellaneous Accessories

We also manufacture a wide range of other kinds of standard workbench accessories. These accessories help improve the comforting efficiency of your lab workers, including:

Table lifts and risers that allow workbenches to accommodate researchers of various heights. Both when they are standing up and when they are sitting down.

Footrests are a great addition, for when lab workers get tired.

Caster wheels that we can attach to workbenches to make them mobile.

RMD Industrial Products has 37 years of experience creating quality-designed lab equipment and industrial furniture. And, RDM products and accessories are proudly manufactured in the USA. To make your workbenches the best that they be, let us help you customize them. You can customize your workbenches with whatever combinations of accessories you desire.

So you’ve decided to go with the stainless steel workbench – a popular choice due to their durability, cleanliness, and smooth and shiny aesthetic. Now it’s time to consider the various options and features to ensure the stainless steel table is the best fit for your unique situation. Stainless steel workbenches and tables are available in a variety of sizes, shapes, and configurations. Below are some key points to consider:

Type of Surface

Stainless steel worktables are known for having durable and easy-to-clean surfaces and scratch-resistant outer layers. However, stainless steel may not be the best option for metal to metal wear. Examples include repeated heavy contact with other metals or through the use of nuts, bolts or screws to connect adjustable elements. Over time, theses connected parts can fuse together.

Another point to consider is that stainless steel, as the name implies, may be stain resistant, but it’s still vulnerable to acids. Over a longer period of exposure, they can also be vulnerable to industrial dyes.

Stainless steel workbenches come with different surface options. The 304 surface type is the minimum higher quality available while the 316 option is the best for corrosion resistance. The 316 option is also available in a variety of finishes including Brushed, Smooth, and Ultra-Smooth Electro-polished which offers a mirror-like finish.

Durability and Weight Requirements

It’s important to consider weight, amount of impact, as well as wear and tear. The level of thickness of stainless steel is measured in gauges. The lower the gauge, the thicker the steel. For example, 18 gauge Economy Work Tables are lighter and less expensive and can be used as general working space. On the other hand, 16 gauge Standard Duty Top Work Tables are more durable. For heavy-duty requirements, 14 gauge Heavy Duty Top Work Tables are resistant to corrosion and can withstand heavy blows without dents.

Mobility

Sometimes it might be necessary to move the stainless steel workbench. For example, to move equipment or to address space constraints. For these situations, stainless steel workbenches with handles and wheels – known as stainless steel carts – are an ideal option and can be moved around easily.

Adjustable Height Workbench

Stainless Steel Workbench – Ergonomic Lift Table with hydraulic handle

If more than one person will be using the stainless steel table, then consider an Adjustable Height Workbench. In today’s health-conscious work environments, ergonomics play an important role and help to prevent workplace injuries. An improperly adjusted workbench can lead to musculoskeletal problems such as muscle strains. There is also increased awareness around the negative health consequences of both excessive sitting and standing.

Storage Possibilities

Stainless steel workbenches also offer a range of storage possibilities such as drawers, cabinets and shelves. If you are considering storage options, be sure to take an inventory of items. Be sure to include the shapes, sizes, and weights of instruments and equipment. Shelves and drawers are also available in various custom configurations depending on specific requirements. Other things to consider are ergonomics. You don’t want to have to reach in an uncomfortable or strained position to open drawers. Security is also important. For instance, what valuable items will be put inside the drawers or cabinets and should they be locked and secure?

Dimensions of the Stainless Steel Workbench

Stainless steel worktables are available in various heights, lengths and widths. It’s therefore important to consider the type of space where the workbenches will be located. For example, will the environment be crowded, or will there be a lot of open spaces? If limited space is available, then Free-Standing Stainless Steel Tables might be a good option.

A laboratory is a place where experiments are often conducted. It’s important to note, that there are different kinds of laboratories. The most common types of laboratories are the chemical and biological labs. These labs contain various types of equipment and apparatuses. However, the most common lab component that is found in all kinds of labs is the laboratory workbench. It is also known as a laboratory work table.

Laboratory workbenches are platforms where apparatuses and equipment are placed during experiments and other laboratory testings. This means that without laboratory work tables, it’s next to impossible to carry out various experiments. The part of the laboratory where the work table is situated is called a laboratory workstation.

There are certain factors that one should consider when installing laboratory workstations. These factors include:

Laboratory Size

There is no standard size for a laboratory. This means that there are workbenches of different sizes. It is therefore advisable to buy a bench that fits well in the laboratory. Working on small benches is difficult. Many laboratory apparatus are fragile and should thus be handled with utmost care. When the laboratory bench is small, the apparatus is more prone to falling. These types of accidents can harm the laboratory user as many chemicals are toxic. Oversized benches, on the other hand, occupy a lot of space. If the bench is larger than required, it makes it difficult to move around the laboratory workstation. When buying a laboratory bench, it is also important to consider the size of the door, stairs, and hallway. This ensures that it is easy to pass the bench into the laboratory during installation.

Surface

There are different types of laboratory bench surfaces. The choice of a surface is determined by the type of the experiments conducted in the lab. A good laboratory surface should be resistant to chemicals and water. This is because, in some experiments, corrosive reagents are used. If the workbench is made of a light material, it is likely to wear off when these corrosive chemical spills. A laboratory bench should also endure high temperatures. Some experiments in the lab require heating. A bench made of a light material is likely to get destroyed during heating.

The following are some common materials used to build laboratory workbenches:

? Plastic Laminate

Most laboratory work tables are made of this material. It is scratch resistant. The material has minimum resistance to corrosive chemicals. It is therefore suitable for conducting unreactive experiments. Plastic laminate wears out easily when encountered with highly caustic chemicals. The material cannot also endure very high temperatures.

? Chemguard Laminate

This material is similar to plastic laminate. However, Chemguard Laminate is slightly resistant to less reactive chemicals and heat. It is therefore suitable for conducting experiments that use less reactive chemicals.

? Phenolic

Most laboratory benches in colleges and high schools are made of phenolic. This material is preferred since it is easy to clean. Phenolic is also stain proof. Additionally, the material is resistant to most standard chemicals.

? Epoxy Resin

Epoxy resin is the best material for making laboratory bench surfaces. The material is resistant to corrosive chemicals. It can also withstand high heat conditions.

Purpose of the table

It is crucial to keep in mind the nature of experiments to be conducted when purchasing a lab table. For example, if the experiments require many reagents and apparatus, a table with storage cabinets will be helpful. This ensures that the laboratory workstations are kept clean always. It is also possible to access the reagents easily during working.

Durability

A good laboratory bench should stay in good condition for an extensive period. Proper maintenance of the working table is necessary to increase its lifetime. A lab work table should be regularly cleaned. All spilled chemicals should be cleaned immediately.

Without a laboratory bench, it is next to impossible to carry out various important experiments. It is therefore vital that the workbench is kept in good condition at all times. It is also essential to choose a material that suits the laboratory’s experiments.

If you are looking for a working table, then stainless steel benches are the best for you. Most people would like to have a table that is in excellent condition. A stainless steel workbench is durable, resistant to corrosion and hygienic for food preparation.

Stainless steel is also known as inox steel, and it is made up with a minimum of 10.5 percent of chromium. In most cases, stainless steel tables are used in the commercial restaurants.

However, it’s also available in the medical industry. And i’s useful in the pharmaceutical industry too, since it is durable and can be sterilized by superheated steam. The stainless steel bench is almost available in every doctor’s room.Reasons why Stainless Steel Bench is Important

Food comes in contact with the bench surface in most cases, and the stainless steel workbench is used as an actual food contact surface. Porous material like wood or granite should not have direct contact with the food. It is because the porous material can bring bacteria to the menu. Apart from the bacteria, the texture provided by the porous stuff is hard to use. Commercial kitchen grades stainless steel is the best. It’s because; they can withstand the room temperature. Although the table may get warm or cold, it does not absorb the heat or the cold from objects placed on it. Therefore, it would be right to say that the table will be room temperature making it ideal to work on it.

? Secure to use – Stainless steel benches provide a clean and a flat surface that is used for rolling out cookies or flattening hamburger patties. Then cleaning off the table can be done quickly. With a decent table, a cook can be able to do his or her work without much problem. Also, for bakers and pizza makers, the non-porous surface is suitable for rolling out the dough. If you have a fisherman in your family, cleaning the fish on stainless steel tables is a quick and a natural thing. The stainless steel does not absorb the smell.

? Maintenance – Just like any other furniture, a stainless steel work bench may need some maintenance. However, other furniture made of wood depreciates at a faster rate. Therefore, you just need simple maintenance to keep your furniture in tip top shape. Maintenance can entail regular cleaning polishing and sanitation to ensure that the table remains in good form to the end. Therefore, buying stainless steel has numerous advantages for you.

? Affordability – Considering the many benefits of a stainless steel work bench, one can confidently state that it’s generally affordable. The only thing that you have to do is to choose the right design for the bench that your environment needs or requires. You should also ensure that you get your benches and tables from the manufacturer that you know so that quality benches can be delivered to you. When you are sure that the table that you are about to buy is okay, then you confidently take it home or use it for commercial purpose.

? Longevity – Apparently, steel is considered to be one of the most durable alloys. To be sure that it will last longer, then you will have to ensure that your desk is made up with high quality stainless steel. If you don’t use high quality material, then there is a possibility that you may not enjoy the benefits.

Now that you know that stainless steel benches have several benefits. You now also know why it’s often advised for people and businesses alike to consider using more stainless steel benches. It’s because such benches have long standing proven benefits. You will not regret purchasing and using stainless steel benches at any time. Their life cycle is long since and they are an admirable piece of work.

Workbenches are essential to getting any manual labor task done. But not all workbenches are capable of standing up to the toughest jobs. The overall value of a workbench is mostly determined by the material that it is made out of. Stainless steel offers the strength and durability you need to succeed at any task.

Main Features:

Any stainless steel workbench will be easy to clean, corrosion resistant and sturdy. Some also offer extra features like adjustable height and space-saving design. Most stainless steel tables require some assembly but it is usually a quick and easy process.

Below are a few reasons why a stainless steel workbench is the superior choice for accomplishing your best work.

1) Easy to Clean:

We all know the headache we get when it comes to dealing with messes. Cleaning up spills, drips and debris is a cinch on a stainless steel work bench. You can just wipe it all off with a rag and your favorite cleaning agent.

2) Sturdy:

Tables need to be able to hold a lot of weight in order to be useful. Most stainless steel work benches can support hundreds and even thousands of pounds. In addition, many stainless steel tables offer self-leveling feet that keeps them stable even under the heaviest loads.

3) Corrosion Resistance:

Stainless steel is inherently resistant to corrosion. This is especially useful in a laboratory setting where toxic chemical agents are frequently used. Unlike regular steel, stainless steel is forged with chromium. This enhancement makes stainless steel the material of choice for many industrial and scientific applications.

Optional Enhancements:

Many stainless steel work benches offer additional enhancements that can make your job even easier.

1) Adjustable Height:

Many companies may offer a shared workroom to accommodate the needs of all staff in order to reduce costs. Unfortunately, it is difficult to provide workbenches that work well for everyone because people come in a variety of heights. This problem can be solved by selecting a workbench with an adjustable height feature. This allows your stainless steel work bench to be accessible to everyone. This emphasis on accessibility can also help your organization to be in compliance with disability law.

2) Space-saving Design:

Stainless steel work benches can be engineered to minimize the space that they consume. Some models are foldable when not in use. Others are mounted on wheels and can be pushed out of the way when the work day is over. Corner units are available that can make use of a space that would normally be wasted.

3) Accessories:

Sometimes manufacturers will produce a suite of integrated accessories that can further enhance your stainless steel workbench. These can include shelving, drawers and side guards. Shelving and drawers allow you to keep items you frequently use within easy reach. Side guards can prevent materials from rolling off your table.

In conclusion:

Stainless steel workbenches are the premier choice for getting work done. Their ability to be easily cleaned, corrosion resistance and sturdiness make them a worthy investment that you can depend on for years to come.

Many people know about the obvious benefits of using a stainless steel work bench in a factory, laboratory, machine shop, garage, medical facility or even in a food service establishment. The most obvious benefits include the strength and durability of steel. There are, however, lesser known benefits that users find when they choose to have a commercial stainless steel workbench placed in the workplace for employees to use as a main piece of equipment.

Lesser Known Benefits of Stainless Steel Work Benches

With stainless steel benches, employees can have everything they need at their fingertips, which enables them to be more productive. Less time spent looking for tools and equipment needed to do the work enhances productivity and gives employees a feeling that everything is well organized and in one compact area. It’s well known that commercial or industrial stainless steel work tables are super sturdy and built to withstand even the heaviest loads. Here are some other lesser known benefits of stainless steel benches and tables:

– Sound Absorption – Workplaces can be made quieter when a commercial stainless steel workbench is put into place. Steel is good for reducing the effects of vibrations when equipment is used on them that normally cause vibration, and these workbenches can help deaden the noise, keeping the area quieter

– Corrosion Resistance – When chemicals must be used in a workplace, and when there is a chance that work tables can have liquids spilled on them, it’s good to know that stainless steel has a built-in corrosion resistance found in few other materials

– Sanitary Qualities – A stainless steel work bench can normally be wiped down quickly and easily after each use, providing a more sanitary work surface for future users of the work area. Effective cleaning and sanitizing are accomplished easily, making stainless steel a great choice for places where sanitary conditions are essential like in medical and laboratory facilities

– Backsplash Benefits – Industrial stainless steel work tables or benches that are fitted with back splashes are exceptionally useful in places where benches or tables will have liquids used on them regularly. A back splash effectively contains any spills that might happen, preventing damage to other fixtures

Hallmarks of a Great Commercial Stainless Steel Workbench

Some of the hallmarks of a high quality stainless steel table or bench are that they are made by a respected and trustworthy manufacturer and that quality workmanship is evident in their creation. A super strong steel bench or table can last for years, giving any business that chooses to use them the advantage of not having to replace expensive furnishings very often, if at all. Some excellent things to look for in a high quality bench include:

– Bull-nosed Corners – Corners on stainless steel benches and tables that are smoothed and rounded off can improve worker safety, and they are essential for any business that wishes to help employees stay protected against cuts or other injuries

– Legs that Adjust – When legs of industrial stainless steel work tables and benches can be adjusted to match a worker’s height, workers will have a more comfortable and efficient work experience

When work benches pay attention to sound ergonomic principles, including height adjust-ability and the ability to configure them into the work space for seamless workflow, they will brilliantly serve the purposes intended for your individual workplace. Investing in the best, highest quality stainless steel work bench furnishings you can find will serve your business, laboratory or shop well, and they’ll last long into the future.
